Recognition…?

This piece reflects my personal disillusionment with what American politics has become, particularly during recent elections. I’m sure many of us can identify with the pervasive feeling that voting often boils down to being forced to choose the lesser of two evils, driven by legal and economic systems that favor corporations and select privileged (wealthy) groups. Extremism has been a poison to our nation, turning it so divisive it's led to actual violence.

Politics should be about creating policies for the benefit and advancement of the collective good; not of companies, not of those in positions of power over everyone else. Laws are supposed to serve and protect everyone. It is disappointing to see how far backwards we have gone in recent years.

I hope one day we can stop seeing each other's as just “beasts” and recognize that we are all actual human beings with dreams and aspirations. In the meantime, we all deserve a fair shot to elect the officials we believe have our common best interests at heart.
